This narrative will give you information on women’s roles in the 18th and 19th century. It will discuss Queen Victoria role, and her thoughts when she ruled in the 18th century and Harriet Tubman’s role and her views during the 19th century. If the two met, their conversation could start by both of them asking questions about their views and concerns during their time. Queen Victoria would have started the dialog by asking Harriet questions about their similarities and when did she become so passionate about her freedom and the freedom of other slaves. Queen Victoria became the successor to the British crown after the death of her uncle George IV in 1825. Members of Parliament gave royalty to the pr incess (Daniels, 2016). The first couple of days of her rule were quite remarkable in which she showed poise, composure, and she had experienced in governmental procedures of her state. Queen Victoria delegates were surprised and agreed with her knowledge she was given in her training, as a child growing up. Queen Victoria took to her responsibilities with ease as though she had the experience of a person having been doing such a job for a while and gaining experience along the way. In doing so, she earned the respect of her subjects giving her the appearance of presence of mind. Her looks seem to be delightful along with her youth, which influenced an immeasurable interest in all who came in contact with her. Queen Victoria had respect for others, her compassion was of school children in a memorandum to her minister, Lord Melbourne advising him to give an additional holiday to school officials to approve a holiday on for coronations in the future (Browne, 2005). Love And Loss I chose to discuss love and loss as these were two strong emotions that have occured in my life. They are both very different but also similar in a way. The two poems I felt dealt with love and loss the best were The Thickness Of Ice by Liz Loxley and Remember by Christina Rossetti. I chose these poems as the thoughts reflected and the experiences included related very much to my own life and views. The Thickness of Ice by Liz Loxley is a well structured, modern poem which refers to how strong love can be but how it can also be the cause to end a relationship. It shows how couples need more than love to keep them together. Ice is a metaphor for a relationship. The persona uses this to show how it†¦show more content†¦Also, gone far away which gently lets him realise they will be physically seperated. Another euphenism used is Into the silent land which signifies heaven and the afterlife where they will not be able to speak to each other. The persona is trying to ease the pain her partner will endure due to her death. The Thickness Of Ice is split into three stages of a relationship: the early stages, the relationship itself and the breakup which includes the feelings and regrets of the persona. The whole poem is written in the future tense, We will meet... and We will be... and the thoughts expressed are what the persona thinks will happen. There is no rhyme scheme but the rather unique device of brackets is incorporated into the poem. These brackets relay the personas personal wishes and inner desires. Thoughts and dreams are inside them and reality is on the outside. Remember is a sonnet and has an octave and a sestet, both with different messages being conveyed. In the octave, the persona asks her partner to remember her and to understand that love lasts past death. The sestet is in contrast to the octave in that she asks him to only remember her if he can be happy. This is less selfish in a way. This sonnet has a full rhyme scheme and shows happiness within their relationship. This suggests their relationship is strong and that they have been together for awhile if the persona feels her death will have such a large impact on him. Known for centuries as the dread disease, Breast Cancer, a formidable opponent of any woman alive today, was even more so in the nineteenth century. Women who were diagnose with the disease had very little chance of survival and were all too often subjected to excruciating and brutal breast augmentation surgeries, even when much of the time they were already terminal and the surgery made no difference at all. Nabby Smith, born Nabby Adams was†¦show more content†¦After ignoring it for several months Nabby informed her parents, who wrote a family friend, Doctor Benjamin Rush, who was among the most respected Doctors of the day, urged her to travel to Boston and have her breast examined. By June of 1811 the now visible lump was enough cause for concern that Nabby returned to Boston for further examinations. After visiting several Doctors, Nabby finally came to the conclusion after a pointed letter from Dr. Rush, that she had no option other than surgery. This was truly a feared option for many women, as at the time there was no form of anesthetics used in medicine, so the procedure was brutal and extremely painful. Many women died from post operational infections before the cancer could claim their lives. Nabby went under the knife of Dr. John Warren on October 8th 1811. The vivid and very real brutality of the procedure was enough to make anyone feel some form of sympathy pains, and it was over in only about twenty-five minutes. After recovery Nabby returned home to Western New York in 1812, however by the following year the cancer had returned with a vengeance, with several visible tumors, she was terminally ill. In both poems the poet has described life in the World War 1 but at different stages. In Attack he is about to go into battle from a trench whereas in Anthem for Doomed Youth he is being more general, but they are both cataclysmic. The first line in Attack is about the actual battle-taking place at dawn, so straight away you know whats happening and it sets a mood, which is calm but is also goading. In Anthem for Doomed Youth the first line is a rhetorical question, which is about men during the war that went into battle and died, but bells are ringing in their honour. Then the rest of the stanza is like the answer to the question by telling you what was going on during that time. Both of these lines set your mind to think about life in the war and whats going to happen next. In the second line of Attack its very atmospheric, because it goes on to say that the troops massed in to battle in the glowering sun, which is personification because glowering is a human life form and the sun cant glower. In the second line of Anthem for Doomed Youth it uses personification by quoting anger of the guns. Its personification because it is giving guns a human form anger. The guns are angry because its war and theyre firing at the enemy and it isnt a nice sound. These lines open the poem out more by describing some of the details what it was like, such as the sun and gunfire. The line three of Attack it uses alliteration and sibilance. The words used to alliterate were smouldering, spouts, smoke and shroud. These two lines not similar because one goes on about the war and the other is on about the choir trying to get god on their side with prayers, so I think that it is effective with descriptive words like menacing and hasty. Line five of Anthem for Doomed Youth is about making no wounding remarks with prayers or bells. In Attack it says about tanks flattening barbed wire to help troops get over it with out being noticed. These lines to me calm the poem down a bit with more of a creeping motion or suggesting feelings.
